Ending poverty and achieving zero hunger, while ensuring inclusive growth and sustainably managing the planet’s natural resources, all in the context of climate change and biodiversity loss, will only be possible through holistic and integrated approaches that respect human rights. For this reason, Prime Initiatives is promoting climate-smart agriculture among smallholder farmers in rural communities.

Promotion of sustainable and environmentally-friendly farming

We promote and train smallholder farmers in organic farming which limits the use of synthetic agrochemicals in crops production. We build solar-powered irrigation systems for smallholder farmers. We train farmers and communities in organic waste-to-value initiatives. Farmers are trained in the preparation of compost to fertilize their crops.

Afforestation

We encourage and lead communities, schools and farmers to plant trees to protect the environment We educate communities on good farming practices and climate-smart agriculture

Livestock, poultry production, mushroom farming, beekeeping and snails farming

We advocate for smallholder farmers especially women to engage in livestock and poultry production to improve their economic conditions We also train smallholder farmers in beekeeping, mushroom and snails farming
