Provision of Safe Drinking Water for Ohiampe Anika Community

Provision of Safe Drinking Water for Ohiampe Anika Community

A Prime Initiatives Project

Access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene is a fundamental human need and a critical component of sustainable development. In line with Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6)—which seeks to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all—Prime Initiatives has provided a hand-pumped borehole for the Ohiampe Anika community, a rural farming area in Ghana.

The community, made up primarily of subsistence farmers, previously faced serious challenges accessing clean and safe water. The newly drilled borehole is fitted with a Mark 2 pump, the highest quality standard available in Ghana, featuring stainless steel submersible pipes that are resistant to corrosion.

Multiple Benefits:

  • Provides safe drinking water for residents

  • Wastewater reuse by women for backyard vegetable gardens

  • Improves overall community health and hygiene

Sustainability Measures:

To ensure long-term use and care of the borehole, Prime Initiatives formed and trained a Water and Sanitation Committee (WATSAN Committee) responsible for the operation and maintenance of the facility.

This project reflects our commitment to empowering rural communities through access to essential resources that improve health, livelihoods, and resilience.
